25 Things You Didn't Know About Ghostbusters

19. Ecto-1 Had Powers Of Its Own

Ecto-1 was a radical vehicle, and most of us had designs on owning our own when we grew up. But originally there was much more to it than met the eye, including supernatural powers and the ability to dematerialise, especially when being pursued.

A version of this can be seen in a deleted scene where a cop tries to give the team a parking ticket. As the officer approaches, a sentry activates on the roof of the car, following his every move. When he foolishly places the ticket on the windscreen, the piece of paper bursts into flames suggesting that even though the final Ghostbusters movie was set in a more realistic setting, there was still something special about their wheels.

Aykroyd and Reitman would eventually decide to give the whole idea the heave-ho, concerned that audiences would struggle to accept a car with supernatural powers. They decided to keep the giant walking marshmallow though.
