25 Things You Didn't Know About The Mask
2. Carrey Turned Down $10 Million To Star In A Sequel
With the film's mammoth box office success, New Line was unsurprisingly eager to get a sequel off the ground as soon as possible.
The studio duly offered Carrey $10 million to reprise the role, but he ultimately turned it down, as his work on Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls convinced him that a sequel wouldn't stretch him as an actor.
Given that Carrey had one hell of a hot streak going, playing The Riddler in Batman Forever and earning $20 million for the lead role in The Cable Guy, he clearly didn't need the money, but even so, really?
But considering that the belated follow-up to The Mask, 2005's Jamie Kennedy-starring Son of the Mask, was a pile of hot garbage - even winning the Worst Picture Razzie award - it was probably for the best.
