The first time we see Ethan Hunt in M:I2, he's climbing a gigantic rock face in the iconic Monument Valley, Utah. The most ridiculous moment occurs when he loses his grip and begins to slip, just barely grabbing onto the rock in time. This leaves Ethan clinging to the cliff at an absurdly implausible angle, such that no human being, no matter how strong, could actually physically do it. Plus, the close-ups make it clear that there's no strain whatsoever on Cruise's arm muscles, ensuring that it's impossible to buy into the scene at all.
