The gang's adventure then brings them to a small town, where Lautner insults the Sheriff by motorboating his buxom wife, causing him to be sent to the gallows to hang for his crime. He's hanged, but after a few moments of choking, he reveals himself to be fine, his abnormally thick and resistant neck saving him from sure death. He then flops around like a dying fish in the air and swings like a trapeze artist, and when the Sheriff's men take aim with their pistols, he's saved at the last minute by Sandler, who cuts his rope with a throwing knife, catapulting him into the air.
