17. Moneypenny Has A Partner
Following the meeting, Oberhauser calls out Bond, causing him to flee the meeting, attacking anyone who gets in his way and driving off in the DB-10. Hinx pursues him in a flashy orange sports car, at which point Bond calls Moneypenny, who is fast asleep. She wakes up to the call, and we can see that she's lying in bed next to a man. As she answers the call, the guy asks what's up, and she lies, telling him it's just her boss, whose credit card has been defrauded. Bond overhears this and amusingly asks who that is, and after she says "a friend", Bond almost angrily admonishes her, noting that it's a bit late for a friend. Moneypenny then tells him, "It's called having a life, you should try it sometime." It's refreshing to see the cliched sexual tension between Moneypenny and Bond be completely steamrolled by this revelation, and further emphasises how distinct Bond is from his other co-workers, who appear to manage a far more sensible balance between spying and living.
