3 Ups & 7 Downs From The Legend Of Tarzan

4. It Wastes An Incredible Cast

What a ridiculously talented cast this movie has... and how woefully little it does with them. Alexander Skarsgard and Margot Robbie are especially perfect as Tarzan and Jane, while the supporting cast benefits from Jackson as Tarzan's pal George Washington Williams and Christoph Waltz as the villainous Captain Leon Rom.

Bar Jackson, though, little of interest is done with most of them: Skarsgard's incredible physique is undeniably impressive but he's unable to make the flatly-written Tarzan especially interesting, Jane isn't much more than a cliched damsel (and the film even has the nerve to joke about this), and while Waltz can do the villain shtick in his sleep by now, he seems pretty uninterested here.

That's without even mentioning minor appearances by Djimon Hounsou and Jim Broadbent; like the rest of the cast, they're given very little of substance to do.
