It's reported that Chris Evans declined the role of Captain America three times before accepting the part. Before the end decision, several other notable actors were linked to the role; at the time many news sources were reporting that none other than John Krasinski had it in the bag. Apparently the part was his to lose after impressing producers during two screen-tests. Casting Krasinski as Captain America would have been a risky move, given his comedy background -most notably starring as Jim in The Office - but so was casting Michael Keaton as Batman and Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man. Krasinski has a genuinely likable quality. But could he have played the ultimate military tough guy? Who knows!
