30 Actors Who Almost Starred In A DC Movie

19. Marlon Wayans - Robin

One thing that thankfully never happened in Tim Burton's Batman movies was the inclusion of The Dark Knight's lighthearted sidekick Robin. Though, that's not to say that it didn't almost happen. The character was originally written into the Batman Returns script as a juvenile gang leader, who becomes an ally to Batman. The character was later changed to a black teenage garage mechanic. Comedic actor Marlon Wayans was cast, and signed for a sequel. The actor even attended a wardrobe fitting, but it was decided to save the character for a third installment.
"I was actually supposed to play Robin, in Batman Returns," the actor said in an interview with io9. "But there was too many characters. I was cast, I was paid and everything. I still get residual checks. Tim Burton didn't wind up doing three, Joel Schumacher did it and he had a different vision for who Robin was. So he hired Chris O' Donnell."
The actor also joked:
"No, look €” I get why they picked Chris O' Donnell, because it would be messed up to have Batman and you've got Robin, and his bulge is somewhat bigger than Batman's. Batman would have a serious problem with that."
