Sir Michael Caine once said that he considers director Christopher Nolan to be his "lucky charm." The two have worked together on six films now; The Prestige, Inception, Interstellar and, of course, he also played the role of Bruce Wayne's trusted butler and friend, Alfred, in Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy. However, this director/actor combo might have never happened if Anthony Hopkins hadn't turned down the role of Alfred first. Now, Hopkins is obviously a talented actor but at this point it's hard to imagine anyone other than Caine explaining that "Some men just want to watch the world burn." Also, at one point, Hopkins was reportedly briefly considered for the role of Mr. Freeze in Batman & Robin as well. No comment.
