John Boyega has experienced an incredible rise since breaking onto the scene in 2011's Attack the Block, to the point where he's now one of the most recognisable faces in the industry.
An integral part of that rise was his casting in 2015's The Force Awakens as First Order defector FN-2187. There are plenty of things to love about Finn, including Boyega's own performance, but the absolute best thing is that he gives his all fighting against the one thing he was trained for - war.
Finn has his flaws, but that only adds to the character's appeal. He's still learning, and learns something valuable in both TFA and The Last Jedi, to the point where now, in Episode IX, it's likely he'll be a fully committed member of the Resistance.
WhatCulture's very own resident movie guy, Ewan has been working in the content creation biz for over 10 years now, having started as a freelance contributor to WhatCulture Gaming all the way back in 2015. He started his own podcast, We Love Dad Movies, in 2022, and has contributed several written pieces to the Eisner-nominated comics website Shelfdust as well.
In his current role, Ewan incorporates his love of cinema, comic books, and history into written pieces and video essays for WhatCulture's Film & TV channel, as well as WhatCulture Gaming and WhatCulture Horror, with a particular focus on nineties-era Dad Movies, old school Westerns, and Golden Age Hollywood Noir. John Carpenter is his fave, and he thinks Batman Beyond should never have been cancelled. If that's your vibe, you'll probably like his stuff.
