30 Horror Movie Survivors Who Probably Wished They'd Died

7. Ghost Stories - Philip Goodman

Locked-In Syndrome, where a patient is almost completely paralyzed but retains full mental function, is one of the most terrifying medical conditions imaginable. Tragically, that's exactly what the protagonist of Ghost Stories is revealed to be dealing with at the end.

This jolly effective British horror film, based on the successful play of the same name, takes the form of a horror anthology, with Philip Goodman (Andy Nyman, reprising his role from the stage show, which he co-created) going to investigate various hauntings. Eventually, it turns out that these are all hallucinations he is experiencing from his hospital bed. He's been left completely paralyzed after a suicide attempt, and the various stories were based on the staff attending to him, as well as the objects near his hospital bed.

British cinema at large is known for going into dark and gritty territory, and its horror movies are no different, with many British horror films having notably grim endings. Having said that, even by Old Blighty's standards, this was unbelievably downbeat and disturbing.
