30 Horror Movie Survivors Who Probably Wished They'd Died

5. 13 Sins - Elliott Brindle

A desperate, money-strapped individual is offered a huge sum of money in exchange for playing a bizarre game; a tale as old as time, and one which invariably ends in disaster. That's very much the case for 13 Sins' protagonist Elliott Brindle (Mark Webber), who accepted an offer to complete 13 increasingly strange challenges in order to win some money. Big mistake.

The first two tasks are to kill a fly and eat it, and things get increasingly messed up from that point on. It all comes to a head with the final challenge being to kill a family member. By this point, Elliott has stopped playing, but there is another person playing at the same time... that person is none other than Michael (Devon Graye), Elliott's learning-disabled brother.

Just after this discovery, it's revealed that their abusive father Samson (Tom Bower) won the game by killing their mother, though he commits suicide to stop either of his sons from winning the game by killing him. As such, Michael instead tries to kill Elliott, and Elliott is forced to kill his own brother in self-defence.

Elliott might've been able to recover from the earlier events just about, but that whole ending with his family was so messed up, and he'd never have been able to get over killing his own brother. Elliott was a nice guy who was just trying to support his pregnant wife; he didn't deserve any of this in the slightest. Yeah, this was absolutely grim all-around.
