30 Horror Movie Survivors Who Probably Wished They'd Died
1. Kill List - Jay
And finally, there's Jay (Neil Maskell), the protagonist of this brilliant, twisted folk horror from director Ben Wheatley. Throughout horror cinema, anyone who encounters a cult will generally end up in pretty bad shape. Having said this, did any of those characters go through as much as this guy? Probably not.
Jay's (Neil Maskell) suffering was on another level. This hitman was a former soldier who was still affected by a mission-gone-wrong in Ukraine, so he was already struggling to get through everyday life or hold down a job. As such, when Jay took on a new assignment with his best friend Gal (Michael Smiley), he thought he'd be lifting himself and his family out of their dire financial situation - if only he'd turned down the contract. If only.
After two gruelling assassinations - during the second one, he's exposed to some hellish homemade videos that leave him distraught - the men try to abandon the job but are forced to complete it, with horrific consequences. The final hit goes wrong, and Gal is mortally wounded; Jay has to mercy-kill his best friend.
Shortly after this, Jay is kidnapped by the mysterious cult that's behind all the murders, and they then force Jay to fight a mysterious hunchback to the death. Once Jay kills the hunchback... it turns out to be his wife (MyAnna Buring), who has their son (Harry Simpson) strapped to her back.
For this poor man, death would probably have been a release.
