Billed As: The return of that VHS, cunningly crafted as a prequel so nobody had to update it to being a doom-laden Vine or something equally hideous.
Hype: By rights, another Ring movie should probably have gone the way of the Paranormal Activity sequels, trading quality for disposable jumps and quick turn-over, but this actually looks a little more substantial.
Again, it's not a particularly complex story, but the presence of Big Bang Theory's Johnny Galecki on the cast immediately gives it some fan-power and there's enough in the tank in the Ring mythology to make a prequel well worth a watch.
The only unfortunate caveat is that success will mean future annual sequels to fill the Paranormal Activity void for Paramount.
