30 Most Hotly Anticipated Movies Still To Come In 2016 - Ranked
23. Queen Of Katwe
Release Date: September 23rd
Billed As: A Disney and ESPN sports movie (double whammy goodness) about chess starring Oscar botherers Lupita Nyongo and David Oyelowo.
Hype: Few people have ever made chess sexy enough for movies (there have been some good documentaries but it tends to end there), but the biographical tale of Phiona Mutesi has everything you'd want in a Disney sports triumph.
Mutesi was a Ugandan prodigy who grew up in the slums of Katwe against a backdrop of AIDS (which killed her father), who was forced to leave school but joined a chess programme and went on to become the first Woman Candidate Master in the country's history.
The pedigree of the actors adds another dynamic of course, but this sort of thing will have Oscars all over it if it succeeds, even outside of the season.
