30 Most Hotly Anticipated Movies Still To Come In 2017 - Ranked
30. The Shape Of Water
Release Date: December 8th
Billed As:
Guillermo Del Toro's return to less blockbustery territory, featuring a mute cleaner who bonds with a sea creature against the backdrop of the Cold War. It's vintage, romantic and most of all, it gives Del Toro the opportunity to spin a yarn, with less big money expectation.
Hype:
Having appeared at Venice already, The Shape Of Water seems to be being proclaimed a return to form for Del Toro, whose Crimson Peak was far from universally adored. The hype suggests that this is a smoother, less ostentatious story, referencing 1960s monster movies, earlier musicals and noir classics. If that doesn't grab you by the lapels and insist, you're a lost soul.
Also, you should apparently expect yet another revelatory performance from the delightful Sally Hawkins. But then, if you've paid attention to her career, that absolutely shouldn't come as a surprise.
