30 Most Memorable Oscar Moments From The Last 30 Years
3. Leonardo DiCaprio FINALLY Wins Best Actor (2016)
Leo finally did it!
Though the narrative that Leonardo DiCaprio was a wildly over-deserving Oscar winner who kept being snubbed wasn't totally convincing - he'd been beaten out by stronger competition almost every time, in fact - it was still enormously satisfying to see DiCaprio's struggle for awards recognition finally come to an end with his first win on his fifth acting nomination.
Leo scooped the Best Actor Oscar for his sublimely dedicated turn in The Revenant, steamrolling the competition in what was admittedly a fairly weak year for the field (they nominated Matt Damon for The Martian, after all).
DiCaprio's win was met with adulation from fans the world over, but also immediately prompted viewers to wonder which overdue talent they'd start cheerleading next (spoiler: it was Gary Oldman).
