30 Things You Didn't Know About Tim Burton's Batman
10. Sylvester Stallone Credits It With Killing The Conventional Action Movie
Beloved though Burton's movie was by the general public, reactions within Hollywood were a little more mixed, as evidenced by Sylvester Stallone blaming it for derailing the muscle-bound action hero gravy train of the 1980s.
Sly said, "It was the beginning of a new era. The visuals took over. The special effects became more important than the single person. I wish I had thought of Velcro muscles myself. I didn't have to go to the gym all those years, all those hours wedded to the iron game, as we call it."
It's tough to take "style over substance" complaints seriously from the guy who starred in Rocky IV, Cobra, Rambo III, Lock Up and Tango & Cash in the years leading up to Batman's release, but you do you, Sly.
Stallone at least appears to have mellowed on his opinion of the superhero boom in recent years, given his hilarious cameo appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
