30 Things You Didn't Know About Tim Burton's Batman

24. It Sold Roughly 10 Million More Tickets Than The Dark Knight Rises

With the massively increased popularity of comic book movies nowadays, this statistic might seem improbable, but indeed, the 1989 Batman was such a phenomenon with general audiences that it ultimately ended up selling 10 million more tickets than even Christopher Nolan's hugely awaited The Dark Knight Rises.

Though inflation of course means that Nolan's movie grossed far more than Burton's, in terms of pure tickets sold Batman '89 sold 62.9 million, while near the end of its run, The Dark Knight Rises had cracked "only" 50 million.

This ultimately speaks to audiences having a much wider range of options for their entertainment in 2012, not to mention a far shorter theatrical window before a film hits home video.

Even so, that the Caped Crusader's first time up to bat theatrically was able to top one of the most anticipated movies of all time is simply jaw-dropping.
