31 Horror Movies To Watch This October

29. Gretel & Hansel

She Dies Tomorrow
United Artists Releasing

Cult horror director Oz Perkins (The Blackcoat's Daughter, I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House) offers up his own totally singular riff on the Hansel and Gretel folklore tale, and as its reversed title implies, it's one keen to betray tradition.

Beyond being a gorgeously shot rendition of the classic tale, Gretel and Hansel boasts remarkable performances from Sophia Lillis as Gretel and the ever-brilliant Alice Krige as the Witch.

While its slow, meditative pace won't be for all tastes, for anyone craving an artsy, uneasy horror film so thick in atmosphere you could almost choke on it, this is just the ticket.

Gretel and Hansel is out now on VOD.
