31 Scariest Movie Moments Of All Time

22. The Climax - Don't Look Now

Don't Look Now is a deeply difficult film to watch - especially with your parents, given the frank and very convincing sex scenes that rumour has it weren't actually simulated. It's about the traumatic death of a child, the haunting shockwaves of it on the parents and then the sudden weirdly sexy impact of them thinking she's actually alive. There's just something incredibly weird about that being the natural response.

Anyway, the film ends with one of the most disturbing scenes ever filmed, in which Donald Sutherland's John discovers just too late that the "little girl" he thought was his revived daughter is in fact a creepy old lady dwarf serial killer who slashes his throat and spills the reddest of red blood all over the place.

Oddly, it's not even well acted, the effects are terrible and it's directed provocatively badly: but the disjointed approach and the weird intercut imagery while John dies is horribly unsettling. And so too is the soundtrack, that feels like it should be triumphant rather than accompanying something so grizzly.
