Kenneth Welsh had a long career in film and television before he appeared in Star Trek: Discovery's third season as Senna Tal, the earlier host of the Tal symbiont. He first began acting in films in 1964, and continued to work straight through until 2022. Despite his dozens of appearances throughout his career, he may be best remembered as Windom Earle, the recurring villain from the second season of Twin Peaks.

He appeared in action films, drama, romance, and disaster movies. He played the Vice-President in The Day After Tomorrow, as well as the Sheriff in Legends of the Fall. He was the recipient of many Genie Award nominations, which ran from 1980 until 2012, at which point they were replaced by the Canadian Film Awards. These were awarded to outstanding figures in Canadian cinema.

Recently, he portrayed the narrator in the irreverent and off-the-wall horror comedy PG: Psycho Goreman. He died at age 80, with his son announcing the news via his Twitter account. His ashes were scattered over Lake Ontario.
