5. Prim Dies...And It Was Alma Coin's Fault (Mockingjay Part 2)

Easily the most devastating moment in the Hunger Games series is the death of Katniss' sister Prim near the end of Mockingjay Part 2. As Katniss and her team edge closer to President Snow's mansion, Snow appears to use the city's refugees as human shields, placing them ahead of the gates as parachute bombs begin to fall, killing them. Amid all the wreckage, Katniss suddenly notices Prim tending to the wounded as a medic, but before she can do anything else, another explosion goes off. It is admittedly a fairly weak moment in the movie, because a) it's enormously coincidental that Prim would be standing by Katniss and b) they strangely don't really linger on the emotional impact of Prim's death at all, but quickly rush though to the finale. That said, though, it's still a shocker, all the more so when Katniss confronts Snow and he informs her that he would never be so wasteful as to kill children for no reason at all: it was in fact President Coin who did it to further damage the Capitol's rep. What a twist!
