40 Movies That Will Kick-Ass In 2018

29. Slender Man

It was only a matter of time before someone jumped on the creepy pasta/urban legend of the Slender Man and turned it into a mainstream horror movie (it was an indie in 2013 and a great HBO documentary in 2016). It Follows already played with a similar basic idea of fear, but given the marketability of the myth, this should bring a lot of fans looking for genuine scares into cinemas.

The director behind it - Sylvain White - doesn't have the best track record, but The Losers wasn't entirely awful. It's just a shame that he also has I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer on his CV as well.

It should be a difficult film to mess up though: all they need to do is have kids lost in a forest and pursued by the Slender Man, with lots of jump scares. Adding too much explanatory mythology to that would be a mistake, so hopefully it'll stay tight and simple.
