If there was any justice in the world, Laika's Kubo & The Two Strings would have won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature last year, because its achievement was utterly breathtaking. Not only was it a joyous, emotional story of vivid and untamed imagination, it was also achieved using stop motion animation techniques that shouldn't be able to capture such magic.

Intriguingly Laika CEO Travis Knight says the studio is now moving away from child protagonists and going more adult - which is about all we know of the next film, which will still be for families and is "a blend of things we haven’t really tackled before."

Even without any details, knowing Laika's track record (Coraline, ParaNorman, Box Trolls and Kubo), they could make anything and it would still be supremely exciting.
