The world of cinema can literally never have too many shark attack movies. They form a bullet proof sub-genre of the monster movie category, with not even the incomprehensibly bonkers Sharknado films able to blunt their popularity.

And now, the oldest predator on the planet might well have met its most formidable match, as Jason Statham gets to show off his swimming ability (he used to be an Olympic diver, don't you know), by fighting a 70 foot behemoth.

He'll play former Naval captain and expert diver, Jonas Taylor - 2018's slightly less chaotic version of Jaws' Quint - who is recruited for a deep-sea mission to rescue Chinese scientists under attack from the mega shark. Expect lots of people to die. But not Statham, who will presumably nut the beast to death.
