40 Movies That Will Kick-Ass In 2018

21. Mortal Engines

Mortal Engines
WingNut Films

If there's one director working today who can do justice to Philip Reeve's beloved Mortal Engines, it's Peter Jackson, which is handy, since it's him that's doing it. The film's premise takes a lot of accepting on paper - it's set in a Dystopian steam punk post-war future in which all nations have been wiped out and cities exist as massive mobile entities mounted on caterpillar tracks. They fight, they eat each other and they seek 21st Century tech as the most valuable commodity.

It's been in some form of production since 2009 - which is understandable given the likely issues with animated actual moving cities - but it should offer Jackson the perfect opportunity to stretch out the tapestry of his imagination again. And it's a series, which you just know he'll love after 6 Middle Earth films.

Let's just all be thankful that they didn't go with the American name of the novels... The Hungry City.
