40 Movies That Will Kick-Ass In 2018

15. Pacific Rim: Uprising

John Boyega Pacific Rim Uprising
Legendary Pictures

Though the long-mooted sequel (which was seemingly cancelled about 318 times before it was confirmed) has lost Guillermo Del Toro as its director, Universal have made a very smart move in replacing him with Daredevil show-runner Steven S. DeKnight and the addition of John Boyega as the lead is great business too.

The first film may have underperformed horribly in the US, but global markets ensured it was a success (especially China) and there's certainly enough excitement in its Kaijus versus Jaegers premise to warrant a second look. Let's just hope it's marketed slightly better than the first movie.

You;d be daft not to expect a lot of action and bucketloads of effects, but Boyega should bring his Star Wars experience in to offer a human-scale story we care about too.
