38. A Wrinkle In Time
After making the explosive Selma and the Oscar-worthy documentary 13th, Ava DuVernay is going in a wholly different direction for an adaptation of classic 1962 sci-fi fantasy novel A Wrinkle In Time, which is going to take some serious creativity.
The story follows a family of young children who travel through dimensions to find their father with the use of a Tesseract, visiting stunning, strange new worlds and encountering creatures of unimaginable oddness as they battle a world-ending force of pure evil.
It's pretty much a hippie/drug classic, and it's going to require a hell of an effects budget, but it's definitely one of the more unusual offerings on the slate. Let's just hope it doesn't go the same way as The Golden Compass (which had a similarly excellent cast).
