Mulan Remake
Disney

Continuing Disney's agenda to turn all of their best animations into live action remakes, the long-in-gestation Mulan remake (which was under discussion as far back as 2000) is coming next year from Niki Caro.

Inevitably, it's already been hit with one racial controversy, as it turned out the first spec script featured Mulan forming a romantic relationship with a white merchant, but that's apparently now been taken out and all characters are set to be Chinese. Which is something of a first for Hollywood.

The Jurassic World screenwriting team of Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver are rewriting the script, and while there's no cast news yet, it's good to see progress in both a female director given a big budget and an all Chinese cast. And Mulan is an under-appreciated Disney gem that definitely deserves another look.

Release Date: November 2nd
