1. The Doctor & River Song (Doctor Who)
Over the course of the near fifty years of Doctor Who, the Doctor has had his share of romances. Weird, is what I would describe most of them as, with the exception of Rose Tyler (just thinking about all that brings a slight tear to my eye). By far the most enjoyable of these to watch has been that between the Doctor and his wife, River Song. The twist (that they keep running into each other in reverse) is what makes theirs a truly unique romance for the show. Unique, humorous, and often heartbreaking. The adorable River Song is a joy to watch in her own right. Shes smart, mysterious, and kicks all kind of tail. But when shes with the Doctor, the best is brought out in both of them. She knows him better than he knows himself at times, and their banter back and forth is hilarious (see the episodes The Time of Angels and Flesh and Stone for a prime example). He, in turn, while initially reluctant to acknowledge that she is his future, comes to realize that she truly is the woman he loves. But theirs is not a love without tragedy. The Doctors first time meeting her is the last time for her, and as she explains to Amy Pond, she never knows at what stage in their relationship theyre in from one meeting to the next, and oftentimes the Doctor knows her less and less. But regardless, whenever they come together, we the audience are in for a treat.
How It Ends: Technically, it ended the first time we saw River. But, fortunately for everyone, theres plenty of time between whats already happened and whats yet to come, so odds are well see much more of River Song before time comes full circle.
