5 Best And 5 Worst Romances In Science Fiction

5 Best Sci-Fi Romances

5. Peter Parker & Gwen Stacey

amazing-spider-man-review When I first heard that Gwen Stacey would feature as Peter€™s love interest in The Amazing Spider-man, I was pretty thrilled. By then the Peter Parker/Mary-Jane rollercoaster had gotten pretty tired and more than a little formulaic. My only hope was that she would have more in common with her comic-book counterpart than the one that was pretty much a glorified cameo in Spider-Man 3. Boy oh boy, was I not disappointed. The Peter/Gwen dynamic was a colossal improvement from the get-go, capturing the wide-eyed wonder of young love, with all its playfulness, angst, and intensity perfectly (especially considering that neither of the leads were really teenagers). The chemistry between the two is undeniable, and the best part? Peter trusts her enough to not bother with all that €˜I can€™t tell you my secret identity because you won€™t be safe€™ stuff. She€™s in on it fairly early on, even protecting her newfound knowledge from her father, who is actively on the Spider-hunt by then. In the end, she isn€™t the damsel needing to be rescued, but an active partner in defeating the Lizard. Spider-Man isn€™t the only amazing thing in this movie. How It Ends: The couple that saves together stays together. While it€™s a happy ending for the duo, we the audience (at least those who are familiar with the comics) are left with a sense of foreboding, seeing as Gwen€™s replacement is officially a part of the sequel, and we all know what will probably end up happening then.
