1. George Lucas - Star Wars Prequels
The big one. What Lucas has done cannot be undone, and whilst we can abide the films created by those directors already mentioned as sort of well made, or even good, just unnecessary, none of that applies to the prequel trilogy of
Star Wars. Lucas had a good thing going with the original films, if he just sat back and let it ride, he'd still be one of the richest, most popular directors in the industry. But he had to go and ruin it with
The Phantom Menace. Million's of people all around the world feel like idiots now because they were excited about returning to the
Star Wars franchise. Those people, if they didn't collectively leave the theatre in a seething rage, lied to themselves and said it was okay, just over hyped. I don't even know if he's realised what he's done. Years from now anyone with next to no information on the
Star Wars franchise will sit down to watch the films, and god forbid, they'll do it in 'chronological order', get ten minutes into
The Phantom Menace, realise they were right to avoid
Star Wars like the plague, and turn it off. Never experiencing the opening of
A New Hope for the first time - he's ruined the films for
EVERYONE.
George Lucas achieved the seemingly impossible by returning to the franchise that made his name: he turned his entire fan base against him. Not a small feat. And one that he'll live with forever.
