3. Thor: The Dark World

The highly anticipated sequel will hit theaters on November 8, 2013. Translation: Just over 100-odd days and counting. I, personally, can hardly stand to wait that long for the follow up to what surprisingly turned out to be my very favorite of the recent big screen Marvel Universe incarnations. The bar has been set. Expectations are a plenty. Good news people: This one doesn't look to disappoint. The film will pick up shortly after The Avengers. We will see Thor, played by Chris Hemsworth, seek out the help of Loki, his imprisoned brother played by the ever-so increasingly popular Tom Hiddleston. Together they will team up to take on Malekith the Accursed and his army of dark elves. You may not recognize him, but Malekith will be portrayed by Christopher Eccleston of Cracker and Doctor Who fame. I know what you are all thinking. Why the hell would he team up with Loki when the last movie we watched was ONLY about stopping Loki and his evil plans? Well here is the short answer. Apparently The Avengers have no issue enlisting the assistance of Thor to save earth, but when it comes time to saving Asgard they are all off too busy fighting their own villains in their own movies. Realistically though this does create a significant plot hole that I'm sure will be addressed and interestingly enough may lead to future settings (as in out of this world) for The Avengers. One thing is certain, the people at Marvel sure know what they are doing and will make it great.
