5 Films Where Audrey Tautou Plays A Total Nut-Case

2. Beautiful Lies (2010)

Beautiful Lies ‰milie Dandrieux is just a simple hair dresser with a kooky mother and a super-educated handyman who has a crush on her. Not quite. What the above should have read is: ‰milie Dandrieux is just a simple hair dresser who thinks it's okay to write fake letters to her mother posing as a secret admirer, while at the same time constantly firing and rehiring her handyman for pretty much no reason and flaking off from work to pursue her crazy shenanigans. Perhaps not as mental as the others, ‰milie is more of an empathetically blank weirdo who can't see (or doesn't care about) the devastating effects of her actions. What this makes for is an extremely unpleasant person to be friends with, kind of like a sociopath who's nice to your face and then kills you later on. Even though ‰milie Dandrieux's clear social problems are borderline catastrophic for the people around her, watching events unfold and romantic phone-lines cross is genuinely entertaining, and Tautou ends up coming out as nothing but charming.
