5 Films Where Audrey Tautou Plays A Total Nut-Case

1. He Loves Me....He Loves Me Not (2002)

Taout Well, what can I say? This is probably the most mental we'll ever see Tautou - I saved the craziest for last. She plays Angélique, just a quite waitress who falls in love with a doctor that doesn't treat her right - that's what the story seems to be at least. But by about a quarter of the way through you notice that something ain't right. It turns out that the doctor has no idea who she is and has only met her once, and it is revealed that the really romantic love affair we were getting sucked into was in fact Angélique following the doctor around and forming wild hallucinations of their life together. She sends him creepy artwork, she stalks him to the park and takes pictures of him with his kid, and she even runs down his pregnant wife with a scooter and forces a miscarriage. Total head-case. Meanwhile, she house-sits for some friends and pretty much destroys their home, and then tells everyone she and the doctor are dating, continuing to lie compulsively throughout the entire film. This is the only film in the list where anyone actually does something about the nuttiness: Angelique is eventually sectioned and institutionalised for years. And then they let her out because she's cured - actually she isn't cured, she just lied the whole time (as usual), and then walks out of the hospital to repeat the entire thing again. Crazy Tautou does a brilliant job on this occasion, and He Loves Me....He Loves Me Not is a genuinely harrowing look into someone's real and dangerous delusion. (Original title: Super Crazy Fun-Time With Audrey Tautou. No, I'm totally kidding; it was € la Folie...Pas du Tout)
