5 Films That Deserve Sequels And 5 That Deserve Remakes

6. Eragon - Remake

Man Of Steel 2
20th Century Fox

Eragon, is the first book in the Inheritance Cycle, by Christopher Paolini. The book series is a massive, medieval, fantasy epic, complete with; evil kings, resistance fighters, and dragon battles. There is also a considerable amount of law and world building throughout, making it incredibly rich and detailed.

Eragon was adapted into an exceedingly average and forgettable film back in 2006, because they tried to cram far too much into one film. This led to a cinematic mess with very little emotion. Considering how good, a quality adaption of these books could be, and how bad the original actually was, Eragon definitely deserves a remake.

It’s key however, not to make the same mistake as the first. The original did actually stay very close to the book, but because the book is so massive, some smaller, but crucial points of character and relationship development had to be cut. Any remake would therefore have to be thought about very carefully in relation to structure, but also, run-time should not be sacrificed at the expense of story. Meaning, that a quality remake, would likely be a similar length to that of a Lord of the Rings film.

That need not be a bad thing though. Indeed, apart from creating a cultural milestone of cinema, the Lord of the Rings films proved that audiences are willing to sit though long fantasy films if they are done well.

Ultimately, the Inheritance Cycle, is a Shakespearian tragedy with dragons, what’s not to like?
