5. Innerspace (1987)
I love this movie. Maybe it dragged on for an extra 20 minutes or so that could have been snipped, but overall, when I think of the definition of a fun movie, this is it, end of story. I'll ask people I get into discussions about films with if they remember this underrated, overlooked sci-fi comedy, and sadly most of them do not. Why? One painfully bad marketing campaign, and even worse, a confusing title that served to keep audiences away from supporting it in its theatrical run in 1987. Regardless, this film has all the elements you want in a big budget film: humor, adventure, action, and solid acting all around. I mean come on, what's not to love about seeing Dennis Quaid miniaturized and then injected into Martin Short's bottom? This film falls under the classification of one of those movies that should have been a financial success at the time but for the reasons I listed above was not. Nonetheless, it deserves to be restored to Blu-ray perfection. The special effects still hold up to this day, particularly with the inside the human body sequences, and to get to see them pop in high-def would be phenomenal to say the least. This is one of those rare films that manages to balance high concept special effects along with great character performances from Martin Short, Dennis Quaid, Meg Ryan (when she was still beyond cute), and Robert Picardo. I'm not sure what Warner Brothers is waiting for, if nothing else, this would make the perfect bargain bin Blu-ray. Make it happen!
