5 Films That Should Have Been Released On Blu-Ray Years Ago

4. Breakdown (1997)

Breakdown 1997 08 G You know, when films like Action Jackson get the Blu-ray treatment, meanwhile a completely forgotten and outright kick-ass thriller like Breakdown is still relegated to out of print DVD status, it just serves to piss me off as a film buff. I still remember watching this on HBO, back in 1998 and being glued to my TV from start to finish. This is one of those few suspense thrillers that keeps you guessing for a great majority of the film. The great part about the film's premise is just like the tagline, it really could happen to you! Ever since I watched this it's made me look over my shoulder a little bit more at rest stops across the country. Maybe I'm in the minority when I say that's the mark of a powerful film but really, there was a great message associated with its story: Always cover your ass when in the middle of nowhere. Additionally, the acting is top notch, Kurt Russell looks like a scared out of his mind husband who's wife has been taken from him, the late J.T. Walsh plays the perfect villain, and everyone else who is peppered in fits the aura of this film marvelously. Even the pacing and choreography of the action sequences is top notch as well. Is it a perfect film? Absolutely not. However, there's a hell of a lot to enjoy about a film that manages to accomplish what Roman Polanski's Frantic did not: Making a man trying to locate his kidnapped wife exciting! This is not just a worthy film, it almost has a touch of Alfred Hitchcock's psychological suspense layered in from beginning to end. So for the life of me, when many lesser quality films have been given the gold star treatment for home-video, I can only be baffled as to why this hasn't even received the prototypical bargain issuing of two to three movies to a Blu-ray disc issuing. Please Paramount, if you're reading this, get on it!
