5 Genres That Are Dying Out
5. YA Adaptations
Young adult adaptations have been the bread and butter of Hollywood for awhile now; The Hunger Games was a license to print money for a few years, Twilight seemed to become more success the worse it got and Harry Potter is going to outlive all of us. With the end of franchises like The Hunger Games (dont rule a prequel or spin-off though) the genre seems to be gradually winding down. Divergent and The Maze Runner do well enough, but theyre nowhere near the popularity of The Hunger Games. A fair chunk of recent YA movies have failed to even launch a franchise; a sleepy Harrison Ford was the most exciting thing about Enders Game, The Giver received nothing and a sequel to The 5th Wave looks doubtful. The most likely reason is the formula has gotten stale, and theres only so many stories about a young chosen one - torn between two hunky dudes having to bring down the evil government/Aliens/Alien government audiences can stomach.
