5 Great Film Candidates To Replace The Pope & 1 Terrible One

2. Priest - Paul Bettany

Young blood - that's what the Papacy needs, and it would help if it came in the shape of Paul Bettany's Priest. Hewn in an alernative dystopian future, the robed warrior has exactly the kind of violent credentials and youthful spirit for life that would make him a great alternative to a more traditional choice. The film might have been so terrible that the sequel it obviously tried to set up never came, and Bettany's performance might not have been his best by some distance, but it's the substance of the character and his experience at getting things done that really appeals. He's also well-versed in uncovering corruption in his version of the Church and opening the Clergy's eyes to clear and present danger to their longevity and lives (in the shape of vampires in the film.) Plus, Priest has a lot of experience vanquishing vampires, and he could shepherd in a new dawn where Twilight and its many nefarious Satanist-lite fans would be outlawed.
