5 Huge Godzilla Mistakes That King Of The Monsters Must Avoid
2. Thinly-Written Characters
While it's true that nobody could really replace Joe Brody as the film's real star, it would have been nice to see them try... like, at all. Unfortunately, the script had put so much effort into his backstory that none of the other characters received any significant development and, as a result, they just weren't all that interesting.
There was undoubtedly potential with Ford but, when you strip away the fact that he was essentially just telling his father's story, there isn't much left. Then you have his wife Elle who, other than the fact that she's a devoted mother and a nurse, we know literally nothing about.
On the science end, Dr. Serizawa spends a lot of time on-screen but, other than looking depressed the whole time, makes little use of Ken Watanabe's talents, while Dr. Graham is little more than a sounding board.
There was so little time spent developing any of these characters that we know virtually nothing about what drives them and, as characters supposed to be the heart of the story, the movie was incredibly lucky that it still managed to garner such a positive reception.
With that in mind, it's imperative that the supporting characters in King Of The Monsters don't suffer the same fate and that the film spends more time developing both Serizawa and Graham, while newcomers are also given ample time to prove their worth.
