4. God Killer (Deep Space) Armor
First Appearance: Iron Man Vol. 5 #5 Before the release of IM3, fans were wildly speculating that Tony may join the Guardians of the Galaxy at the end of the film, in a way to tie in the Iron Man franchise with the new GotG franchise set to premiere next August. Tony Stark is currently a GotG member in the comics arc by written by Brian Michael Bendis, and utilizes this cool looking armor designed for space travel. Technically the armor is called the Space Armor MK III, but the title of the comic arc it appears in is called "The Godkiller," and frankly that name sounds incredibly more badass. The armor was created so that Tony could move better throughout space, without any complications. It sports back-mounted rocket thrusters, a redesigned helmet, and a new A.I. named P.E.P.P.E.R., modeled of course after Pepper Potts. We did briefly see a deep space suit in Iron Man 3, the Mark XXXIX, known as "Gemini." Early marketing for the film unveiled the armor and gave credence to the rumors of Tony leaving Earth's atmosphere. It would make sense that Tony would design such a suit after nearly dying in the events of The Avengers, but unfortunately the suit is never used for its intended purpose in IM3 and is destroyed at the end of the film. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has hinted that the films will continue to go in a more cosmic direction in Phases 2 and 3, so perhaps we may see Tony utilize some variation of the deep space suit in the future.
