2. It's Still Too Dark At Times
For most of the action scenes - the same ones that have too much red in them - it looks like James Wan has gone with the prevailing DCEU aesthetic of turning all of the lights off.
This might make things more dramatic (which seems to be the logic of the franchise's approach), and it might at least fit with the idea of the shared universe being tied together by artistic decisions, but it's just unnecessary.
Look at how stunning the Atlantis introduction in the trailer looks - it has the same immediate impact as Pandora's first appearance in Avatar - and there are enough organic light sources to suggest it should still be lit up at night. So why when there's a battle has everything suddenly gone all grim and grubby? Let's hope it's not just a cynical ploy to hide all the CGI...
