5 Kaiju We DEFINITELY Won't See In Godzilla's Monsterverse

3. Gigan

Mechagodzilla Toho
Toho Co Ltd.

Gigan, first introduced in 1972's Godzilla vs. Gigan, has proven to be one of Godzilla's most vicious and brutal foes. Gigan may not have the notoriety of Mothra or Rodan, but his addition to the Monsterverse would be met with glee from Toho fanatics.

There is one significant issue with including Gigan in this universe: Practicality. To Legendary's credit, they have made a commitment to realism and have designed the monsters as if they could be living, breathing animals. For example, Godzilla's legs were taken from elephants, the largest living land creature, which are designed to support their massive weight. obviously Godzilla is far larger than any elephant, but the logic tracks.

Gigan, on the other hand, is an extraterrestrial cyborg. Gigan's weapons included metal hooks on each arm, a metal horn and, in his modified form, buzzsaws and chainsaws. It just doesn't mesh with what Legendary is looking to achieve.

However, a retcon of the character is possible. Of course no animal has natural metal attachments, but plenty of animals have piercing weapons for defense. A redesigned focused on grounding the kaiju could see his addition into the Monsterverse.

If Gigan is added to Legendary's monster universe, just expect some fundamental changes to his look.
