2. Thing (Addams Family, 1964-1998)
Thing has been around for decades. In fact he was one of the original disembodied, free thinking hands in Hollywood. If you ask anyone who the most famous hand in cinema and television is they would almost be guaranteed to say 'Thing' and rightfully so. He - or rather it, though it's referred to as a he - is consistently the funniest, bravest and perhaps sanest member of the whole Addams clan though little is known of his origin. And that's why Thing is also incredibly creepy. At least in films like Evil Dead 2 and The Beast With Five Fingers we have a supernatural explanation for the hands existence. There's no such explanation for Thing other than he's a hand with a mind of his own, which begs the question how does Thing see or think and does Thing need to eat? In the originals Addams Family comic strips Thing was actually attached to a body but only the hand was ever visible. Later the characters creator Charles Addams decided to remove the body entirely making Thing the living embodiment of a Hand Servant. And that's really all we know about him ... or it ... Although Thing is the most famous scene stealing hand on the block there's one hand that although perhaps not as well known with Joe Public did a much more grandiose job of stealing an entire movie.
