5 Most Profitable Hollywood Remakes Of Asian Horror Films

4. Mirrors

Jessica Alba The Eye
20th Century Fox

Budget: $35 million

Box Office: $77 million

The 2008 film Mirrors was a remake of the 2003 South Korean film Into the Mirror. Mirrors’ Tomatometer rating is only 15%. Mirrors used the original film’s basic idea of involving mirrors and also incorporated some of its scenes.

However, producer/director Alexandre Aja crafted a new story for his version. Mirrors featured Kiefer Sutherland’s character becoming a night security guard at a department store after being suspended from the NYPD. During an interview to promote the film, Sutherland claimed that he has a phobia of mirrors.

The most iconic scene involved the sister of Sutherland’s character, portrayed by Amy Smart, being killed by her reflection as it rips its mouth apart. The direct-to-DVD sequel Mirrors 2 featured the lead character portrayed by Nick Stahl replacing Sutherland’s character as night security guard at the same store as the first film.
