5 Most Profitable Hollywood Remakes Of Asian Horror Films

3. The Eye

Jessica Alba The Eye
Lionsgate/Paramount Vantage

Budget: $12 million

Box Office: $56 million

The Eye, a remake of the 2002 Hong Kong-Singapore co-production of the same name, was released in 2008. Having a star such as Jessica Alba in the film did not help The Eye earn a Fresh rating as it received only 22% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Eye is very similar to the original as both films featured the lead character being a blind violinist who gained the ability to see spirits and foretell deaths after undergoing a cornea transplant.

The remake was set primarily in the United States and Mexico, while the original was set in Hong Kong and Thailand. Alba won the Teen Choice Awards for Choice Movie: Horror/Thriller Actress and was also nominated in the Golden Raspberry Awards’ Worst Actress category.
