5 Movie Villains Whose Punishments Were Far Too Severe

3. Edward Rooney From Ferris Bueller's Day Off

Thingy

I am not a fan of Ferris Bueller's Day off. It is a smug pandering work that deserves to receive just as much scorn as it's principle character shows the world. It's like watching the early stages in the development of a psychopathic mind. Matthew Broderick's nauseating Bueller manipulates the people around him in such an un-charming manner that it feels as though we, the audience are being treated with just as much contempt as the characters in the film.

Perhaps it is the alienation that the main character forced me to feel from proceedings that causes me to experience such sympathy for poor Mr Rooney. With the other entries on this list so far there have been serious character flaws... such as being creeps but I can think of nothing that Edward Rooney does in Ferris Bueller's Day of that would cause me to view him as a villain. The man is a working dean, it is his responsibility to see that Ferris gets his education and he makes a fine attempt. It is just horrible that for his enthusiasm, for putting one hundred and ten per cent into his work he gets kicked in the face, accused of sexual harassment, is chased by a vicious dog, gets his car toed and loses his good shoes. A career ending day for a great, hard working American. Bueller, I hope you're ashamed.
