5 Newly Acquired Properties That Are A Pefect Fit For Disney (And 5 That Are Not)

Two of the most notorious otherworldly figures in cinema are now in Disney's hands. In what perhaps may be the most out of place properties in this merger, the Alien and Predator franchises land at the House of Mouse.

The Xenomorphs and Yautja have been gracing our screens for decades to varying degrees of quality. After all the sequels and reboots, one thing has remained the same: they are horror movies. This doesn't seem to be in Disney's wheelhouse.

You can attribute this to Disney's consistent appeal to children. Targeting kids, or at the very least not excluding kids, is good for the box-office. If you've ever wondered why most blockbusters are PG and PG-13, just remember a kid is an extra ticket.

With that considered, Disney does music, fantasy and adventure as well as anyone. For this reason, though, they may be a fish out of water when it comes to genuine terror. Some of the old Disney cartoons are more comfortable with violence than you may remember, but there hasn't been anywhere close to a conscious attempt at horror.

What may turn out to be a bright side for Disney is the current low bar for both franchises. Recent installments of Alien and Predator haven't sat well with audiences and they may be more receptive to some Disney experimenting. Time to sprinkle some magic on an ovomorph or two.
